Ren Salon.

Sydney boutique salon. Russian hair extensions, nanoplasty smoothing, considered colour. By appointment.

The brief

Ren is a quiet boutique on Oxford Street, Paddington — extensions fitted by Natalia, colour by Dilara, smoothing treatments that read like a slow exhale rather than a chemical service. The salon already had the craft. The brief was to build a digital surface that sounded like the room: lowercase, unhurried, sensory, by appointment.

No exclamation marks. No stat walls. No jargon outside the service-detail bullets where it belongs.

Outcome

A salon page that reads like a magazine feature — and still books the chair.

The room sounds like the room. The brief was the work — and the work shipped.

Branding

A lowercase wordmark — set in the founder’s voice.

Wordmark, palette and photographic direction drawn to feel like the room itself — calm, considered, unhurried. The mark sits in lowercase script across signage, the digital surface and the in-salon collateral, never raising its voice.

From the brand guide

A system — not a sketch.

Selected plates from the 33-page brand book that shipped with the engagement. The work doesn’t end at the website — it travels with the brand to every surface it touches.

Brand guide page 5 — Brand Personality spread. Headline reads 80% The Caregiver, 20% The Magician. Each side carries a description of the archetype's role in how Ren Salon shows up — caregiver as compassionate, gentle, welcoming; magician as transformative, knowledgeable, problem-solving

01·Brand personality · archetype mapping

Strategic positioning before a single visual is drawn — the upstream work most agencies skip and most clients never see.

Brand guide page 7 — Primary Logo spread. Left page describes the lockup choices in plain English; right page shows the ren salon wordmark set across an editorial photograph of a model in nude gauzy fabric in long dry grass, with the wordmark + minimum-size spec (18mm) printed in the bottom-right corner

02·Logo system · spec, not sketch

Primary lockup, photographic anchor and a documented minimum size. The mark survives at 18mm and at two metres.

Brand guide page 4 — Values spread. Six brand values laid out in a 3-by-2 grid: Sustainability, Toxic-free, Experience, Trust, Empowerment, Premium. Each value paired with a plain-English paragraph describing what it means in practice — how it shows up at the chair, in the products, in the way the salon talks to clients

03·Values · the brand’s compass

Six values shipped as plain-English standards — Sustainability, Toxic-free, Experience, Trust, Empowerment, Premium. The compass behind every decision the salon makes, on the website and in the chair.

Brand guide page 14 — Type in Use, web. Tablet mockup of the live ren-salon site running the brand typography in production. Inline annotations label the heading face (Domane Text Light, sentence case) and the button face (Arial Narrow, uppercase)

04·Typography · set, shipped, in production

Domane Text Light through the headings, Arial Narrow in the buttons — one decision, applied across every surface the buyer touches. The system tested at scale.

Brand guide page 17 — Colour Palette spread. Five vertical swatches running left to right from ivory through butter cream, rose, hazel and mulled wine. Each swatch labelled with hex, RGB and CMYK values for cross-surface reproduction

05·Palette · the recipe

Five colours with hex, RGB and CMYK values. The brand survives outside the website — on signage, packaging and social.

Brand guide page 22 — Social Templates, testimonials. Three Instagram-story-format frames: two text-led testimonial cards in mulled-wine and butter-cream, plus one photo testimonial template with a salon-styled back-of-head shot. All three lifted from the same palette and voice as the website

06·System · extended across surfaces

Social templates drawn from the same palette and voice as the website — the brand travels from page to feed without being redrawn each time.

Thirty-three pages. Five sections. One system that survives every surface it lands on.

Voice · the why, in plain English

The slanted strokes — seen in the e and r — tap into the idea of movement and texture of hair. Setting the wordmark in lowercase adds a softer element to the brand — reflecting a commitment to using gentle ingredients that are kind and nourishing.

From the Ren Salon brand guide · primary-logo rationale, page 7

Most brand books present a mark. Ours name the why. A documented decision survives every future hire — a printer, a social manager, a new stylist. An undocumented one becomes guesswork the moment we leave the room.

That paragraph isn’t a tagline. It’s the studio writing about its own design choices inside the brand book — proof we operate fluently at both ends, design and language, without breaking register.
